Those That Trust In The Lord...
“For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue. Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you. But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.”
Psalm 5:9-12
There are essentially two types of people in this world. You may be tempted to agree and say yes, there are good people and there are bad people. The Bible on the other hand, does not give us this picture.
In the Bible, you see there are two types of people -- those who trust in the Lord and those who do not. David compares the two in this Psalm. If you trust in Him, you have cause to rejoice and sing. The Lord himself will protect you.
Those who do not trust in Him, have no reason for rejoicing. Sure there may be moments of happiness in their lives, but this life is but a vapor and their joy is always fleeting. Truth has escaped them and they’ve put their trust in their own judgments.
In all honesty, this is rebellion to God. When we trust in ourselves, when we trust in our own counsel, we are rebelling against the one who created us. God is the one that we should seek counsel from. He is the one who knows all and sees all.
While those that do not trust are cast away from His presence, those that trust in God have a joy that is everlasting. It doesn’t end. It endures forever. They will forever enjoy the God who has saved them.
Prayer - Lord, I put my trust in you. I do not want to be like those that are trusting in their own works or counsel. My full trust and assurance comes from you and you alone. I rejoice that my name is written in your book. I sing for joy at the mention of your name. Help me today to live with the joy and favor that you have given me. Amen.
