Is Heaven A Place On Earth?
“For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you. Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.”
Psalm 5:4-8
Where the Lord lives, evil cannot. He doesn’t dwell with evil and evil doesn’t dwell with Him. There’s a place where evil can’t go. It’s popularly known as heaven.
When I say heaven, you may have visions of clouds and pearly gates, but the most basic understanding of heaven is that it’s the place where God dwells. He lives and makes his home in heaven.
Not only does He make his home in heaven, occasionally heaven makes its home here on earth. The garden of Eden was a place like that. The mountain where Moses met with God is a place like that. The temple was a place like that.
Wherever God makes his presence known on the earth is a place where heaven is invading earth. When Jesus came, he instructed his disciples to pray that heaven would come on the earth and at the end of the Bible, in the book of Revelation, we see the new heavens coming down to the earth.
For evil, this is a scary thought. Eventually, even here on the earth, evil will have no place to stay. It will have no where to hide and no where to reside. Evil will be evicted and God will dwell here on the earth with man. Heaven will come down.
Until then, we should respond like David, who was well aware of the steadfast love of God. He saw that love and realized it allowed him to enter into God’s house, the place where God dwells. Because of His love, we too can enter into God’s presence with boldness and escape the evil of this world.
Prayer - Father, help me to see that wherever you are evil cannot exist. Help me to boldly enter into your presence today. Give me the faith to follow you wherever you may go. Amen.
