Offering The Right Sacrifice
"Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord." - Psalm 4:5
The message of the church is the message that David has here for his enemies. Remember David is surrounded by people who are seeking to kill him and his message isn't "I'm getting ready to slaughter all of you" but it's a message of repentance.
David says to his enemies essentially, repent. Repent, turn to God. Offer right sacrifices. In some areas the church in America has lost this message. We simply want our enemies to be scattered and perhaps we are there, but David's heart for those who opposed him was for them to repent.I think we can learn a lot from David and his desire for his enemies to be made right with God.
The world is in bad shape. With the rise of transgender ideology and abortion wacktivists trying to maim, kill and disfigure the next generation, one could easily fall into warrior mode. "We just need to rid this evil from our country," some may say. But I'm not sure that's the most godly example. In Scripture we see that when the nations give themselves fully over to evil, God raises up a prophet to call them back to repentance. Yes, there are times when things are too far gone, like Sodom, but its not for us to decide when that point is and I think the church's message should always be one of repentance.
Noah preached repentance and begged people to enter ark right up until the door was shut. And just to be clear, he didn't close the door, God did. The church should be on its knees praying and asking God to grant people more time to come to repentance. Yet many of us are joining the crowds of people putting their trust in the next politician who offers them the world on a silver platter in exchange for their vote.
So my message to you today is to offer right sacrifices and put your trust in the Lord. Don't put your trust in silver-tongued politicians or some conservative podcaster. The answer to the world's problems right now is not moral conservatism, it's repentance and faith in Jesus. Only God can save our country and only God can turn the hearts of men back to Him. Let's pray that He does.
Prayer - Father, just as David preached repentance to his enemies, we also ask for the love and boldness to proclaim your message in our world today. Please grant repentance and changed hearts to those who push evil agendas and promote the destruction of our children. Amen.
